Enjoy breakfast then depart on a scenic drive towards Musanze. It is a 3 hours’ drive to the border at Cyanika. After clearing with customs, you will proceed to Kisoro and head for a community tour that includes a visit to a coffee farm. At the coffee farm, you will have the opportunity to learn about the sustainable farming practices in the Virunga massif and is a great way to promote social change through ecotourism. After the tour, we will transfer for lunch at a marvelous lodge with panoramic views of the Bwindi Forest. A recently proclaimed World Heritage site, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is one of the most biologically diverse areas on earth and its unique, precious flora sustains roughly half of the world population of mountain gorillas – believed to number just 600. There’s also a substantial chimpanzee population and research shows that Bwindi is the only forest in Africa in which these two apes live together.

Following an early breakfast at the lodge, you will drive to the park headquarters for a morning briefing from the rangers at 8.00 am before you enter the gorilla sanctuary. Throughout the trek, you will be accompanied by experienced guides and trackers who will offer insightful information about the endangered mountain gorillas. Once you have found the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend 1 hour observing them from a 10-meter distance. The thrill of your encounter will erase the difficulties of the potentially strenuous trek. Each encounter is different and has its own rewards, but you are likely to enjoy the close view of adults feeding, grooming and resting as the youngster’s frolic and swing from vines in a delightfully playful display.
