One of the best-kept secrets of Sri Lanka’s west coast is the shimmering hamlet of Kosgoda, just south of Bentota. Naturally blessed with wide golden beaches, a beautiful bay, a small reef, and multiple estuaries flowing into an azure sea, these bejewelled surrounds were the colourful inspiration for the conception of Saffron & Blue. This elegant and thoughtfully designed four-bedroom villa and its charming staff look forward to welcoming you. Saffron & Blue’s staff have been with the villa for many years and will do their utmost to please with their warm and friendly Sri Lankan hospitality.
Designed by leading Asian architect Channa Daswatte (a protégé of the late and prolific Geoffrey Bawa) Saffron & Blue is all about spaces and moods and places and hues, with a mix of bright, sunny areas and cool, secluded nooks and crannies.
All the living and sleeping accommodation is contained in a simple, rectangular, two-storey structure, cleverly arranged to provide huge open living space alongside intimate lounge and dining rooms and serene, private, bedrooms and bathrooms. Almost every room looks out over the lawned gardens and the brilliant blue pool – some with views of the ocean just beyond.

At Saffron & Blue food is taken very seriously. That’s because the owner hails from a family renowned for their food. So, what you eat and how much you enjoy it, is considered to be a very important aspect of your villa stay. Plan your daily menus with Chamith, the villa’s resident chef, who has been impeccably trained under the watchful eye of celebrity gastronome, Koluu. No stay is complete without sampling freshly caught seafood (including cuttlefish, prawns, succulent crabs), the luscious array of tropical fruits and vegetables, or roast paan, a crusty Sri Lankan bread. Chamith is trained to produce meals that suit each and every palette and will ensure that spice levels are to your preference and that children are kept happy with their favourite dishes. You will have the choice of purchasing groceries yourself at local markets and asking the chef to prepare meals, or providing grocery money to the chef, who will do the purchasing on your behalf. You are also welcome to make use of the kitchen if you enjoy doing your own cooking
Recreation
You will be warmly looked after at Saffron & Blue by Rajeewa and Kumudu, who pride themselves in making every guest feel as welcome as one of the owner’s closest friends. Along with chef Chamith, this charming duo take care of everything from serving meals and drinks throughout the day, to keeping the villa and grounds pristine, to organising cars or tuk-tuks for sightseeing trips.Arrive at sunset and enjoy the spectacle of the vibrant skies reflected in the swimming pool. Unwind with a pre-dinner drink, then sit down to a hearty meal. Play your favourite music, watch a movie, or simply gaze up at the stars. Next morning, enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool or a walk along the beach. Tuck into a traditional Sri Lankan breakfast of string hoppers and roti, then spend the rest of the morning exploring the nearby village. Enjoy a late lunch of rice and curry like the locals, or simply settle for a sandwich or a bowl of pasta – followed by a mandatory siesta! Wake up and start all over again.Everything at Saffron & Blue reflects great taste.
