Chanteclair Guest House is nestled in the picturesque Franschhoek Valley. Just 75km from Cape Town City centre, historical Franschhoek is one of South Africa’s oldest settlements. The main house at Chanteclair is a tastefully converted farmhouse, situated in an exquisitely landscaped and tranquil garden setting, offering luxurious accommodation and delicious breakfasts. A walk through the fragrant gardens and orchard and on up to the top of the vineyard offers panoramic views of the Franschhoek Valley and an opportunity to see the diverse local bird life. The Franschhoek Valley is renowned for wine making and at Chanteclair we produce our own Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc and Malbec.
Franschhoek is surrounded by majestic mountains and the views from the front stoep (verandah) and terraces are outstanding. These magnificent mountains provide a superb backdrop for a glass of wine in the evening, before heading into the village to dine at one of Franschhoek’s many highly acclaimed restaurants. Chanteclair is five minutes from the centre of Franschhoek, known as the gourmet capital of South Africa.
Room
The main house has four double or twin rooms and two separate detached units, namely, Vine Cottage and The Studio. The rooms in the house are named after the trees adjacent to them in the garden, Jacaranda, Cork Oak, Prunus and Syringa. All our rooms are en suite, some have a fireplace or under-floor heating and all have superb views either to the vineyards or the mountains.
JACARANDA
This is a beautiful, large, high ceilinged room with a king-sized bed and sitting area. It is pleasantly cool in the summer and has a log burning fire and under floor heating for the winter months. The bathroom has a bath and separate shower.
JASMINE
This room has a single bed and has under-floor heating. The fully tiled en-suite bathroom is brightly lit and has a modern shower cubicle. Please note that there is no television or fridge in the room.
PRUNUS
This is a beautiful king-sized or twin bedded room with under floor heating. It has direct access to the front stoep and a fantastic mountain view. The en-suite bathroom has a shower over the bath.
SYRINGA
This is a large king-sized or twin bedded room with a private terrace and direct access to the garden and swimming pool. It has under floor heating. The en-suite bathroom has a shower over the bath.
CORK OAK
This is a king-sized or twin bedded room with under floor heating. The en-suite bathroom has a bath and separate shower. The French doors lead to the garden with a beautiful view of the orchard, vineyard and the mountains beyond.
The Studio
THE STUDIO
The Studio is separate from the main house. It is a beautiful, airy, peak-roofed room with beams and a reed ceiling. It has a queen-sized bed and the en-suite bathroom has a bath and separate shower. There is a separate seating area with log burning fire and it has its own verandah with fantastic views of the mountains.
VINE COTTAGE
This charming cottage has a queen-sized double bed, en-suite bathroom with shower over the bath. The separate lounge has a log burning fire and under floor heating and there is a small dining area. French doors open on to a private stoep under the vines.

Recreation
In the grounds of L’Auberge Chanteclair there are 4 hectares (10 acres) of land under vines. The first 2 hectares of vines were planted in 1989 and the remainder in 2000, all of which were Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2005 it was decided to remove the older vines at the top of the vineyard and this land remained fallow until 2007 when these were replaced with a variety of viticultures i.e. Shiraz, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Chenin Blanc They were first harvested in 2012. This is an exciting time as we are able to experiment with new blends, as well as producing a Chenin Blanc under the Chanteclair label and a pure Malbec, a variety not commonly grown in South Africa.
