Ol Pejeta Bush Camp is set on a pioneering wildlife conservancy and working cattle ranch. You'll gain insight into conservation practices and enjoy superb safari activities led by the hands-on owners and their experienced, resident guides. This conservancy also hosts the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary which is a unique Jane Goodall project in Kenya.
Ol Pejeta Conservancy at the foot of Mount Kenya is home to a range of sought after wildlife and around 200 bird species. Animals that can be seen include Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Buffalo and Rhino amongst plentiful plains game. Other unusual species such as Grevy's Zebra, Beisa Oryx and Jackson's Hartebeest can also be spotted.
Room
Ol Pejeta Bush Camp’s accommodation consists of 5 (brand new!) large tents which can all act as double, twin or family rooms. This means the camp can accommodate a total of 12-14 guests in total. All tents are situated along the river. They also provide accommodation for filming groups – please email us for special information on what we can do for your filming requirements. The accommodation style is of a traditional, and comfortable safari camp. It’s built entirely on an eco-friendly design, there are no permanent structures and we make the camp’s environmental impact as low as possible. Tents are furnished with single/double/twin beds (duvets and blankets), re-chargeable solar lights, ensuite loos and wash basins, and safari bucket showers (brought on request, of any preferred temperature by guests at any time of day!).
Safari Tents
The six new, desert brown safari tents are dotted throughout the nearby bush. All are set a reasonable distance apart from each other, but the thick vegetation in between makes each tent feel really private.
A high wicker roof – to offer additional cooling shade – covers the tents and each veranda features a small table and directors' chair. The main bedroom, accessed via canvas flaps, is of a comfortable size and is simply decorated.. The tents are all new as of September 2013 and they suit people who are not after a room with lots of frills, but want it to be comfortable, spacious, clean and of good quality. Each has a canvas floor with a couple of rugs, a large bed with bedside tables and a luggage rack. Solar power lights the rooms, but you cannot plug things in or charge batteries in your room; this has to be done in the main communal tents.
The en-suite bathroom is located in a separate section a few feet behind the bedroom. This includes a tastefully decorated shower area and a flushing loo.
Hot water is brought to you in the mornings, or on request, for the bucket shower and a bucket of cold clean water is always positioned underneath the sink for when you want to clean your face. A separate cubicle houses the flush toilet.
Family Tent
One large family tent. The camp can be booked exclusively for a family or group of 8 or more for a reasonable supplement per night. Further temporary tents can be added for larger groups if you have a special request.
The Family Tent accommodates a family of four comfortably with all meals provided.
Dining
Ol Pejeta Bush Camp superb Head Chef James Mumo makes bread daily in the traditional charcoal safari oven (using eco-charcoal made on Ol Pejeta), and a wide variety of salads, meat and vegetarian food in camp and for bush breakfasts and picnics. He is famed for his curries, soups, cakes and puddings. They get fabulous beef, lamb and wild honey direct from Ol Pejeta Conservancy. All drinking water is mineral water, and wine, beer, sodas, cordials, juices and a variety of spirits are provided. Please let us know of any special food and drink preferences and/or allergies in good time before your stay as supplies are bought in specially.

For an extra USD $40 per person per activity, they offer lion tracking, feeding time at Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, guided ravine river walks, a behind-the-scenes visit to the Endangered Species Enclosure, fly camping (for clients that stay 4 nights or more) and half a day with the tracker/attack dogs (depending on availability).
